The Transparency International recently released the Corruption Perception Index. According to the index, India ranked 85 among the world countries. The report said that the score of corruption has been stagnant for India over a decade. Also, the report said, the fundamental freedoms in the country are decaying and concerns over democratic status are increasing.
India’s rank improved one place to 85 among 180 countries in a corruption perception index 2021 (CPI), according to a new report by Transparency International which, however, raised concern over the country’s democratic status. The index, which ranks 180 countries and territories by their perceived levels of public sector corruption, uses a scale of 0 to 100, where 0 is highly corrupt and 100 is very clean. India scored 86th in the ranking in 2020.
The Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) ranks of countries around the world, based on how corrupt their public sectors are perceived to be. The results are given on a scale of 0 to 100, where 0 is highly corrupt and 100 is very clean.
This year’s CPI paints a grim picture of the state of corruption worldwide.
More than two-thirds of countries score below 50. And despite some progress, nearly half of all countries have been stagnant on the CPI for almost a decade. These countries have failed to move the needle in any significant way to improve their score and combat public sector corruption.
It is a non – governmental organization. It was founded in 1993. Its headquarters is located tin Berlin, Germany. It works to take actions against corruption measures, prevent criminal activities. The most popular measures of Transparency International are the Corruption Perception Index and Global Corruption Barometer.
The TI included 180 countries in the ranking. The rankings were created based on the corruption in the public sector of the countries. Based on this, the Corruption Perception Index is calculated. Here zero means highly corrupt, a score of 100 means the country is clean. India scored 40.
