Note –

  1. The Commission makes the final allotment of posts based on merit-cum preferences of Posts given by the candidates and once a post is allotted, no change of posts will be made by the Commission due to non-fulfillment of any post-specific requirements of physical/ medical/ educational standards, etc. In other words, for example, if a candidate has given higher preference for a post and is selected for that post; in that case, if he (hereinafter may be read as ‘he/ she’) fails to meet the medical/ physical/ educational standards, his (hereinafter may be read as ‘his/ her’) candidature will be rejected and he will not be considered for other preferences.
  2. While giving preference of posts at the time of Document Verification or as and when required by the Commission, the candidates may note that there are a few posts like Inspector (Central Excise/ Examiner/ Preventive Officer), Inspector, and Sub-Inspector in CBN, Sub-Inspector in CBI and NIA, etc. which have specific requirement of Physical Standards, Physical Tests and Medical Standards
  3. Candidate selected for the post of Assistant Audit Officer/Assistant Accounts Officer will be allocated to various offices in the Department spread across India based on the number of vacancies required to be filled up through this recruitment, the merit order of the candidate, and his preference for a particular State/ UT. Further, the selected candidates with Bachelor’s degree in Commerce or with the desirable qualification will preferably be allocated to the Commercial stream based on administrative requirements and subject to the availability of vacancy.

From the above information, candidates judge that the posts about the CGL are of a higher cadre as well as the number of posts in the CGL is more than that of the CHSL. At the same time due to this, the number of applicants applying for the CGL is and so is the competition. Since the candidates who are applying for the CGL posts already have the 10+2 qualification that is required for the CHSl, they will also start applying and preparing for the SSC CHSL Mock tests. The other difference is in the vacancies and reservations which are mentioned below.

Vacancies and Reservation

  • Reservation for Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Other Backward Classes (OBC), Economically Weaker Sections (EWS), Ex-Servicemen (ESM), and Persons with Disabilities (PwD) candidates for all the categories of posts/services, wherever applicable and admissible, would be as determined and communicated by the Indenting Ministries/Departments/ Offices/ Cadres, as per extant Government Orders.
  • Vacancies for ESM are reserved for only Group “C” posts.

The difference in Exam Pattern

Aspirants have updated knowledge of the exam pattern, so that they are not misled, and waste their precious time during the preparation of the SSC chsl exams.  Tier 2: With the change in exam pattern the questions are asked again from the same topics as that of Tier 1. Additionally, Junior Statistical Officers (JSO) will be having a paper on Statistics, and Accounts Officers will have a paper on accounts subjects. 

Tier 2: With the change in exam pattern, the questions are asked again from the same topics as that of Tier 1.  

Skill Test – Typing Skill test is conducted to check the candidate’s proficiency in computer literacy and efficiency.

Physical Test – Candidates who are selected for inspector posts have to undergo a physical test where their physical strength is checked.

Changes in the Exam pattern

Major changes that have been made in the exam pattern are that Tier 3 and Tier 4 are merged into Tier 2. Tier 2 consists of three papers now, one of which called section 1 is compulsory for all posts. The SSC Tier 2 has three new modules after the change in the exam pattern. By implementing these new changes, the recruitment process got time leverage, and now the process will be completed soon. Further, the reduction of math questions and introduction of the general awareness section in Tier 2 will be beneficial for aspirants who are not from math’s backgrounds. Major changes are listed below.

Major Changes in the SSC exam

  • After the changes, now the Tier 1 exam will be qualifying in nature. Marks of Tier 1 will not be counted in the final score.
  • Marks secured in SSC Tier 2 will decide the final score of the candidate and his ranking.
  • Three papers are introduced in Tier 2, they are Paper 1, Paper 2, and Paper 3.
  • Paper 1 will have three sections with two modules each. This paper is compulsory for all aspirants.
  • Paper 2 is for the aspirants who applied for JSO (Junior Statistical Officer) whereas Paper 3 is compulsory for those who applied for Assistant Audit Officer / Assistant Accounts Officer posts.
  • English papers in the Tier 2 exam will have more weightage.
