SSC CGL Salary & Perks

For most of the aspirants who are preparing for SSC CGL exams, Salary, Pay & Perks are the major factors for deciding the preference of order to the posts they apply. After the 7th pay commission, there have been many changes in the SSC CGL salary structure and allowances. In addition to this, there are many posts announced in the notification for SSC CGL, so the candidates can get confused about which post to choose. Therefore, the SSC CGL salary becomes the decisive factor apart from the status of the post in making their choice. Firstly, we have to know that there are five pay level posts – Level 8, level 7, level 6, level 5, and level 4. Total Gross & In-hand Salary

SSC CGL salary includes allowances that are paid to meet the living costs like DA, HRA, transportation allowance, etc. The amount you receive varies from place to place depending upon the demography and living standards of the area where you are posted.

House Rent Allowance (HRA)

SSC CGL Salary also has an additional allowance to meet the house rental needs. It’s called House rent allowance, this varies according to the city and is classified into 3 categories. HRA is given as per the type of city in which you are posted, cities are divided into X, Y, and Z categories. Employees are paid a minimum of Rs. 5400/- pm, Rs. 3600/- pm, and Rs.1800/- pm for X, Y, and Z categories respectively. The percentage of allowance is given below: 

@ 24% of Basic pay for X category of cities

@ 16% of Basic Pay for Y category of cities

@ 8% of Basic Pay for Z category of cities

Dearness Allowance (DA)

Dearness allowance (DA) is paid by the government to employees to compensate rising cost of living/inflation. DA is announced by the Central Government every six months, it is given a percentage and is calculated on the employees’ basic salary.

Transport Allowance (TA)

SSC CGL salary also includes transport allowance, which is offered to employees to compensate for their travel expenses from the place of residence to the workplace. In general, conveyance allowance is paid only if the Government is not providing transportation facilities. The rate of transport allowance per month varies from city to other places like towns or villages. The rates are mentioned below:

 Employees posted in the cities: Rs.3600

Employees posted at all other places: Rs.1800
