Staff Selection Commission Combined Higher Secondary Level (SSC CHSL) exam is one of the most desirable for aspirants aiming for Government jobs in India. Every year thousands of vacancies are filled in Government departments through the SSC CHSL Exam. More so, the government is focusing on providing better facilities, and services in every aspect of our lives and the development of our country and to do that millions of Jobs will be created in the coming years. To succeed in this exam, it’s essential to have a clear understanding of the SSC CHSL exam pattern and syllabus. The SSC CHSL exam pattern is divided into two stages: Tier 1, and Tier 2, each with its own set of challenges. Similarly, the syllabus for each stage is designed to test your proficiency in subjects such as General Intelligence, Quantitative Aptitude, English Language, and General Awareness. SSC CHSL Exam Pattern 

Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has recently started a new exam pattern. So, before starting your preparation, it is important to check the new exam pattern and syllabus to start your preparation. 

The SSC CHSL Exam is an online Computer Based Examination (CBE), so practicing the Mock Test for SSC CHSL on computers would be very useful for facing the real exam. The SSC CHSL exam is divided into two tiers as indicated below:

  1. Tier-I
  2. Tier-II

SSC CHSL Tier-I Exam pattern

The Tier-I Examination will consist of Objective Type, Multiple-choice questions only. Except for the English language other papers will be conducted in multiple languages. Each question carries 2 marks, and the exams should be completed in 60 minutes

Note: There is a negative marking for each wrong answer. For every incorrect answer 0.50 marks will be deducted.

Module-II of Section-III i.e. Skill Test/ Typing Test:

  1. Module-II of Section-III will include conducting of Skill Test/ Typing Test in Session-II on the same day.
  2. Skill Test/ Typing Test will be a qualifying nature.
  3. Errors in the Skill Test will be calculated up to 2 decimal places.

 

    SSC CHSL Syllabus

    SSC CHSL Tier 2 Syllabus

    There has been large scale changes in the SSC CHSL Tier 2 Exam Pattern and syllabus. The revised

    SSC CHSL exam needs to be understood for knowing the SSC CHSL Tier 2 Syllabus and how to prepare for exam. SSC CHSL Tier-II has the following three sections, each having modules that are mentioned below:

    Section-1

    • Module-I: Mathematical Abilities
    • Module-II: Reasoning and General Intelligence.

    Section-2: 

    • Module-I: English Language and Comprehension
    • Module-II: General Awareness

    Section-3: 

    • Module-I: Computer Knowledge Test
    • Module-II: Skill Test/ Typing Test

    SSC CHSL Tier-2 will be conducted in two sessions: Session- 1 & Session-2 (both on same day). The Session-I includes Section-1, Section-2 and Module-1 of Section-3. While Session-2 will include conducting of Module-2 of Section-3 which is a skill based test.

    The SSC CHSl syllabus for Tier 2 is almost same as Tier 1 but the SSC CHSL exam Tier 2 questions level is slightly more difficult than that of Tier 1 exam. Appended below is the SSC CHSL Syllabus for Tier 2 exam.  

    Module-I of Session-I Syllabus for Mathematical Abilities:

    A total of 30 questions are asked from Mathematical abilities syllabus in the SSC CHSL exam from the following syllabus.

    • Number Systems: Computation of Whole Number, Decimal and Fractions, Relationship between numbers.
    • Fundamental arithmetical operations: Percentages, Ratio and Proportion, Square roots, Averages, Interest (Simple and Compound), Profit and Loss, Discount, Partnership Business, Mixture and Alligation, Time and distance, Time and work.
    • Algebra: Basic algebraic identities of School Algebra and Elementary surds (simple problems) and Graphs of Linear Equations.
    • Geometry: Familiarity with elementary geometric figures and facts: Triangle and its various kinds of centres, Congruence and similarity of triangles, Circle and its chords, tangents, angles subtended by chords of a circle, common tangents to two or more circles.
    • Mensuration: Triangle, Quadrilaterals, Regular Polygons, Circle, Right Prism, Right Circular Cone, Right Circular Cylinder, Sphere, Hemispheres, Rectangular Parallelepiped, Regular Right Pyramid with triangular or square Base.
    • Trigonometry: Trigonometry, Trigonometric ratios, Complementary angles, Height and distances (simple problems only) Standard Identities like sin2𝜃 + Cos2𝜃=1 etc.
    • Statistics and probability: Use of Tables and Graphs: Histogram, Frequency polygon, Bar-diagram, Pie-chart; Measures of central tendency: mean, median, mode, standard deviation; calculation of simple probabilities

    Module-II of Section-I (Reasoning and General Intelligence):

    Questions of both verbal and non-verbal type are asked in SSC CHSL exam in Tier 2. The syllabus for SSC CHSL Tier 2 includes questions on Semantic Analogy, Symbolic operations, Symbolic/ Number Analogy, Trends, Figural Analogy, Space Orientation, Semantic Classification, Venn Diagrams, Symbolic/ Number Classification, Drawing inferences, Figural Classification, Punched hole/ pattern-folding & unfolding, Semantic Series, Figural Pattern-folding and completion, Number Series, Embedded figures, Figural Series, Critical Thinking, Problem Solving, Emotional Intelligence, Word Building, Social Intelligence, Coding and de-coding, Numerical operations, Other sub-topics, if any.

    Module-I of Section-II (English Language And Comprehension):

    The English Language syllabus for Tier 2 exams is almost same as Tie 1. The topics that needs aspirants attention are: Vocabulary, grammar, sentence structure, synonyms, antonyms and their correct usage; Spot the Error, Fill in the Blanks, Synonyms/ Homonyms, Antonyms, Spellings/ Detecting mis-spelt words, Idioms & Phrases, One word substitution, Improvement of Sentences, Active/ Passive Voice of Verbs, Conversion into Direct/ Indirect narration, Shuffling of Sentence parts, Shuffling of Sentences in a passage, Cloze Passage, Comprehension Passage. To test comprehension, two or more paragraphs will be given and questions based on those will be asked. At least one paragraph is simple one based on a book, or a story and the other paragraph should be based on current affairs editorial or a report.

    Module-II of Section-II (General Awareness):

    Tier 2 General Awareness Syllabus for the SSC CHSL Exam is not different from Tier 1 exam. Questions are designed to test the candidates’ general awareness of the environment around them and its application to society. Questions are also designed to test knowledge of current events and of such matters of everyday observation and experience in their scientific aspect as may be expected of an educated person. The test will also include questions relating to India and its neighboring countries especially pertaining to History, Culture, Geography, Economic Scene, General policy and scientific research.

    Module-I of Section-III of Paper-I (Computer Proficiency)

    This is an additional subject that is included in the SSC CHSl Tier 2 syllabus. Aspirants are asked question to check their basic knowledge of computers. The CHSL Tier 2 syllabus for the same is given below:

    • Computer Basics: Organization of a computer, Central Processing Unit (CPU), input/ output devices, computer memory, memory organization, backup devices, PORTs, Windows Explorer, Keyboard shortcuts.
    • Software: Windows Operating system including basics of Microsoft Office like MS word, MS Excel and Power Point etc.
    • Working with Internet and e-mails: Web Browsing & Searching, Downloading & Uploading, Managing an E-mail Account, e-Banking.
    • Basics of networking and cyber security: Networking devices and protocols, Network and information security threats (like hacking, virus, worms, Trojan etc.) and preventive measures.

    (i). Must have passed 12th Standard or equivalent examination from a recognized Board or University.

    (ii). For Data Entry Operator in the Office of Comptroller and Auditor General of India (C&AG): 12th Standard pass in science stream with Mathematics as a subject from a recognized Board or equivalent.
